Crash kills 2 Texas A&M-Commerce students

Tuesday, August 08, 2006

COMMERCE (AP) - Flags at Texas A & M University-Commerce will fly at half-staff Tuesday in memory of two students killed in a weekend crash.

Authorities say 20-year-old Britney Lipsey of Celeste and 22-year-old Rachel Rollings of Coffeyville, Kansas, were killed Sunday as they returned to campus from a tubing trip.

Investigators say the students' sport-utility vehicle was hit by a trailer that had come loose from a truck and crossed an Interstate 30 median just east of Royse City. That's about 30 miles northeast of Dallas.

A third passenger -- 18-year-old Rachel Ashley Bates of Commerce -- was released from a Dallas hospital Monday after treatment.

All three were members of the Chi Omega sorority.
