Man, 24, killed after swerving to avoid errant trailer tire

KALKASKA COUNTY -- An Oak Park man was killed and four others injured on M-72 Friday evening when a spare tire on a trailer came loose in front of him and he swerved into the path of an oncoming car, police said. The 24-year-old victim of the 6:40 p.m. crash was not identified by authorities.
The man's car was immediately behind the trailer, which was being pulled by a truck, when the tire broke free near West Bear Lake Road in Bear Lake Township about 14 miles east of Kalkaska. Sheriff's deputies continue to investigate the crash.
